CHESHIRE WEST & CHESHIRE

Challenge

Installation of Soltherm’s EWI HD System onto 21 properties on behalf of For Housing in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, with funding received from European Regional Development Fund.

The project was to be delivered using innovation in surveying and manufacturing, a strict stipulation for securing ERDF funding.

What was done

Installation of Soltherm HD EWI system to 21 properties across two locations in Ellesmere Port and Neston.

How was the project managed?

The project was managed and installed by Guildmore’s Facades and Cladding Division in cooperation with the landlord, ForHousing and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Challenges faced

Individual properties across a wide area caused challenges in management, delivery timings and site security. Soltherm and Guildmore developed bespoke project management tools to ensure customers were not inconvenienced. The properties were susceptible to damage from wheelie bins and weather meaning detailing and design features needed to be carefully specified.

Lessons learned

Sequencing of properties is key

Potential for replication

This project is perfect for replication, so much so that we have also secured a similar scheme with ERDF funding in Liverpool to commence early 2021.EWI SYSTEMS

Project Successes

Built on budget and to timescales.

Customer expectations met

Quote from contractor/customer

“This is a good example of an activity that will be of benefit to residents, saving fuel costs whilst keeping their homes warm at the same time contributing to the climate emergency solutions. The Council has declared that the borough is in a climate emergency, we are working with partners and communities to tackle climate change in the area. We welcome ideas like this on how we can reduce carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions”.

Gavin Griffith Project Delivery Manager – Major Projects and Capital Delivery Team

Keith Laing, Head of Façades and Cladding at Guildmore commented

“We have worked closely with our supply chain partners including Soltherm External Insulation Ltd. to create a new innovative approach to surveying properties which will reduce the impact on residents. Our approach will ensure the highest levels of consideration are maintained are all times when working in and around people’s homes”.
